Colorful Calendar Transformation!

As you may know, I went on a wonderful vacation this summer! It was absolutely amazing, but arriving back a week and a half before school started left me with picked-over school supply sections! Which led me to my calendar dilemma... all the cute ones at Target were taken!

When I was browsing around an office supply store I came across this beautiful calendar:

The only problem was that it was a weekly calendar. So I passed it up. But I couldn't stop thinking about how perfect the colors were, and so when I stumbled on it again at Target, I had to pick it up!

I figured that it wouldn't be too hard to transform it into a monthly calendar, so that's what I did!

First, I took scissors and cut off the sticky notes on the side. (They were attached to the cardboard on the back, so it wasn't too card to cut them off!)
Next, I wrote in the month at the top in the empty space.
Then I wrote in the numbers for the days at the top of each box.

The only problem with it being a weekly calendar is that there are only 4 rows, but I figured I could just put a diagonal line through the boxes where I needed to double-up on the dates! The boxes are pretty big and I usually don't write too much on this calendar (just important school dates), so I still have plenty of space to write!

And now I have a beautiful, colorful monthly calendar! Usually I hang up my calendar on the bulletin board next to my desk, but since this one is a little bigger (and heavier) I just keep it on the counter behind my desk! And as an extra bonus there are enough pages to have my calendar last for 2 years!

And there is extra space on the left hand side of each week for any extra notes I want to write for that week!

Also, if you missed my post from a couple weeks ago, I am absolutely loving the color-coded labels I made for the fiction section of my classroom library to keep the books in alphabetical order! They have worked wonderfully the first 2 weeks of school and have made my life (and the job of my classroom librarians) so much easier! You can see that post here!

I'm linking up with my sweet bloggy buddy Tara for her Monday Made It linky!

  1. Love the calendar and that it will last 2 years! I had already read the post on your library but thanks for the reminder because I had already forgotten about wanting to implement your great system with my chapter books!
