Valentine Boxes, Heart Crayons, & Genre Posters!

Wow, I can't believe it's already been a week since Valentine's Day! Of course since I love holidays our classroom will still have heart decorations and Valentine math games until the end of February! The whole month is a Valentine celebration! :)

First I wanted to share our Valentine Boxes! I have been doing this since I started teaching and every year my kiddos love it! The first year I had my husband round up a ton of shoe boxes from his work, cut slits in the top, and then I carried several huge bags of shoe boxes to school. Of course I've gotten wiser the past few years, and now I just have my kiddos bring in extra shoe and kleenex boxes they have laying around at home!

Then we spend the end of the day (30 minutes) decorating our boxes! I lay out a bunch of supplies on the back table and they go to town! I didn't get to take pictures of their boxes before our Valentine party (we usually decorate our boxes the day before), so you can see them above after they are all filled up with goodies!

Also, I was so inspired by Tara's post on the Valentine presents she made for her kids, that I decided to do the same! I love how fun and colorful the heart crayons turned out!

And I am so thankful I found these at the Target dollar spot to make them in! I literally was looking there for 10 minutes and couldn't find them, so I went off to look at something else. Then as I was leaving I walked past the dollar spot again to take one more look and found them tucked in the back! Woo hoo!!

Stacy at Funky Fresh Firsties has easy to follow directions in case you want to make these for next year!

I just typed up little tags, which I laminated and then hot-glued the crayons to!

Also, I wanted to share with you my new genre posters that I just finished up! I was so in love with how the figurative language posters turned out, that I decided my genre posters needed a face lift as well, so I created new ones! They include 23 different genres and are available in my TpT store! And to celebrate Friday and the end of another fabulous week, they will be on sale for 20% off through tomorrow evening!

Hope you all had a great week! With no school Monday and a field trip on Tuesday, the week really flew by!

  3. Hey, as a trainee teacher I am trying to gather ideas to use in the classroom for when I graduate next year. I really like the heart crayons they are such a good idea and the mixing of colours has given them a unique, cool look. I will definitely use that with my class one day, I have never seen anything like that before- thanks for sharing. I cant wait to see more posts.

I hope you can hop along to my blog too,
    all the best
